statues:songs

Psalm 119:54
"your statutes have been the theme of my songs wherever i have lived."
i have moved around a lot.  i've lived in only 2 states but i've moved from house to house, city to city about 17 times in my 39 years.  that's a lot of packing my friends.  and one thing i love about moving is the act of taking inventory as you pack.  you go thru your things...the stuff that inevitably accumulates as we buy, buy, buy... and decide what to give away (because it's no longer current or, you changed your mind, or more accurately, doesn't fit anymore), what to throw away (doesn't work, is stained, embarrassed to give it away because that would mean other people knowing you owned it), and what to keep.  i actually enjoy this process.  i love change (as is clear according to the varying hair colors over the years....no the changes were not meant to coordinate with the various moves...)
anyway... as much as a i love change and as much as it has been, and i'm sure will continue to be, a significant part of who i am as a person, as an artist,  there is something else that is of far greater importance that keeps me loving life... the truth.  it never changes.  and it has been the theme of my songs from day 1.  the Bible says in Hebrews 13:8 "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever."!  he IS truth.  he never changes.  his word remains the same.  is that not comforting??!!  to know that no matter what changes we encounter and endure in this life, Jesus is there! his word is there!  the truth remains the same!  Psalm 119 is all about obedience and...
loving the truth,
loving the light,
living the law.
v1-2 "blessed are those whose ways are blameless, who walk according to the law of the LORD.  blessed are they who keep his statutes and seek him with all their heart."
v7-8 "i will praise you with an upright heart as i learn your righteous laws. i will obey your decrees..."
v9-11 "how can a young man keep his way pure?  by living according to your word.  i seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands.  i have hidden your word in my heart that i might not sin against you."
and on and on it goes!  i invite you to read Psalm 119 in it's entirety... it might take a couple of days!  and let it sink in.  after you read the whole thing, maybe go back and re-read and meditate on the parts that really grabbed your attention.  let the truth about the truth sink in.
let it become your theme.
